Sleep Thorn • The Deep Sleep Stave

The Svefnthorn is an ancient symbol of magick that is said to put the intended into a deep sleep state from which they will not wake for a long while. It appears in old Norse tales and poems, as well as later Icelandic and accounts of ancient folklore such as the Huld Manuscript.

One such tale, in The Saga of the Volsungs, Óðinn used the stave to place the noble Valkyrie Brynhildr into a deep sleep, then, created an impenetrable ring of fire around her body. She was never to wake until the day came that someone could cross the fire to wake her. The day came when the brave hero Sigurd was able to cross the flame and awaken the sleeping Valkyrie.

The stave has been burned into a 3.5in x 8in piece of reclaimed cedar planking. Included a mounting bracket for hanging, or can be placed upon your Altar directly.
